The PETITION TO RECALL PAUL KREKORIAN has officially been approved by the City Clerk.

From a Los Angles Times article from February 19, 2016

“Critics launch effort to recall L.A. City Councilman Paul Krekorian”

Krekorian reacted to the news by pointing out he had won reelection last year with more than 75% of the vote.
Krekorian received  75% of the total vote but that’s 8,312 votes out of a possible 123,573 registered voters in in his district. Because the voter turnout was so low, Krekorian won with roughly 6.7% of the support from his district.

A recall ballot is calculated from 15% of the registered voters in CD2 not the actual voters. 8,312 voted for Krekorian but 18,536 votes are needed to recall him.

Text from recall petition:

WHEREAS Councilmember Paul Krekorian has repeatedly opposed appeals filed by the community where substantial evidence was provided indicating non-complying development, imposing negative impacts on our neighborhoods;

WHEREAS Councilmember Paul Krekorian has repeatedly failed to respond to constituents who have alerted him of dangerous demolitions and multiple projects where there exists an immediate threat to public health, safety and welfare related thereto;

WHEREAS Councilmember Paul Krekorian continues to allow piecemeal densification without credible environmental review of the consequences thereto, resulting in irrevocable environmental damage;

WHEREAS Councilmember Paul Krekorian has engaged in “spot general plan amendments” which have burdened the neighborhood’s character, traffic, open space, natural resources and housing;

WHEREAS Councilmember Paul Krekorian has failed to protect existing rent-control properties, resulting in the displacement of residents and families;

WHEREAS Councilmember Paul Krekorian has repeatedly approved zoning changes, waivers, exemptions and land use entitlements for projects conflicting with CEQA provisions, California Health and Safety Codes, California Public Resource Codes, California Government Codes, The Valley Village Specific Plan and The North Hollywood Community Plan;

WHEREAS Councilmember Paul Krekorian has consistently opposed nominations submitted for historically and culturally significant buildings, trees and landscape;

Comments to Councilman Krekorian recall campaign underway

  • Hopefully this will unite all the CD2 communities, given we all have experienced similar issues with him. There’s only so long you can ignore the data and statistics that speak louder than whatever excuse he has behind them.

    Let’s get our neighborhoods back!
