In a surprising move that has startled long time SCNC watchers, Committee Chair Rita Villa has removed veteran Government Affairs Committee members Alex Izbicki and Richard Adams.
Taking their place are Lisa Karadjian, and Rita’s long time friend, the recently dethroned Lisa Sarkin of Sportsman’s Landing fame. Why Ms. Villa chose to replace two members with a long standing and well known opposition to unbridled “development” with two members that have rarely, if ever, seen a development they didn’t love is a mystery that has many locals scratching their heads, especially since the committee will be reviewing changes to the Baseline Mansionization Ordinance and Baseline Hillside Ordinance as well as the Small Lot Code Amendment.
Is this a convenient back door for Ms. Sarkin to continue to deliver the goods to her political patrons and their developer pals, by watering down motions on this legislation at the committee level? No one knows for sure, but it is a real concern in certain circles, and one that bears considerable watching, given how poorly Lisa Sarkin’s signature RFA has failed to protect our neighborhoods. It also makes you wonder what good it did to vote her out of office if she can come crawling back into power through a back door held open by a friend.
If you’re concerned about this recent development, please attend the Government Affairs Committee Meeting tomorrow (Wednesday, 3rd of August), 6PM CBS 4024 Radford Ave., Editorial Bldg. 2, Room 6, and have a say regarding some very important issues pending that could have a significant impact in ‘Our Studio City’.
