After months of speculation, finally some new information on Twain’s, the once-beloved Studio City diner space that shuttered just over one year ago. Yes, Sharky’s Woodfired Mexican Grill is still coming in (not, as some have rumored, a fancy tequila bar or, worse, a parking lot), and they’ve got big plans for the place.

Though it’s been slow going on the construction front in remaking the famed Googie building, that’s actually a good thing in one sense: it means that, true to their word, the Sharky’s team is taking their time to incorporate elements from the original building into the final look. As the above renderings show, the swoops and angles that made Twain’s so iconic will still be well represented, just with an eye towards modern dining inside.

Representatives for the restaurant say an opening is still several months off (likely May or early June), but the hard work is just about done. What’s left is to begin crafting the interior of the restaurant, while simultaneously building up the outside with landscaping and a near wraparound patio.

Beyond all that construction, there are plans to lightly update the Sharky’s vibe and menu as well. Most of the company’s newest locations are sleeker than the originals, using reclaimed wood, marble, and pendant lighting to craft a more stylishly modern feel. That’ll certainly be the same with the former Twain’s, where tile and metal and tall ceilings will help to give the dining area a strong look.

Ultimately guests familiar with Sharky’s will find a lot to love, from organic and non-GMO veggies to their craft beer selections and wide variety of healthy-dining options. It’ll all just be packed under the sloping rooftop of Twain’s, that Studio City Googie masterpiece everyone has loved for so long.
